You arrive as guests and leave as friends’ was what we read in various feedback reviews about Spruce lake.
Possibly hyped or over generous reviews maybe?, a little too much sugar frosted coating?.... we decided to book a seven day break to escape the fast pace of busy suburban life to see what all the fuss was about.
I’m delighted to say any cynical thoughts swiftly evaporated within a few hours of landing at Limoges airport.
Myself, ‘the better half’ and two friends were met at arrivals by Mark and Alison, the husband and wife owners of Spruce lake as we had pre arranged airport transfer with our booking, within forty minutes we were all at their idyllic lakeside home deep in the countryside of rural France.
I’m a keen course fisherman but the Mrs isn’t so this was a 50/50 deal, fishing for me with a comfortable B&B and evening meal scenario for her.
For any fisherman reading this review I can honestly say this is a beautiful lake to while away the day....Mark,Jamie and the team have turned a neglected overgrown piece of land into a stunning fishery with great facilities and surrounding landscaped bank side foliage and pathway, there’s a fisherman’s shower and boot room with drying facilities for wet clothing.
The lake has a generous stock of carp up to 50lb and swims that are very well thought out, roomy and comfortable, Mark is always on hand for advise on any subject being it bait, rig set ups, hot spots to target, fishing technique improvements and of course, trophy picture shots!!....my advice is...take Marks advice and you won’t go wrong.
Regarding the house and Alison’s side of team ‘Wilson’.
Wow, wow and wow again!!...the food was excellent, breakfast, lunch, bank side picnic or evening dinner were up to and beyond restaurant quality, perfectly timed and always hot, the deserts are divine and Alison’s Prawn Thai curry was to die for, amazing meals by a quality chef all done in a small homely kitchen, fresh food made with skill and care....well done Alison!
Our room was lovely, all the rooms are, tea and coffee, clean linen and very nicely furnished, if we needed anything, Alison would get it so you’ll want for nothing.
Would I go again....YES
Will I go again.....YES
I couldn’t recommend Spruce lake anymore highly and can’t wait to visit in the near future.
Well done guys. Xxx
